For over 31 years Nassau Flyers has been a leader in flight instruction and aviation services. Founded in 1976, the company has been located at Farmingdale Republic Airport since its inception, and no one knows the area better than we do. We offer extensive flight instruction for all levels of skill and experience, as well as pilot supplies and aircraft rentals.
Nassau Flyer's specialty is a personal approach to flight and ground training. Our fleet of training aircraft consists of over twenty Cessna and Piper airplanes. All have fully functional dual controls. We also operate several more complex airplanes.
Nassau Flyers flight training is conducted by instructors who are fully licensed by the FAA and have hundreds of flight hours. Working with a single instructor who is always responsible for your progress, you will develop the skills to become the safe, competent pilot you wish to be. Flight instruction is always available seven days a week during our office hours. In addition, you and your instructor may arrange to fly at any other mutually convenient time, thereby accommodating most any schedule.
Costs of flight training are outlined on the NFI Rates page. You will note that the aircraft rental rates include both a "Standard" and "Club" rate. For the person who plans to fly about three hours a month or more, the Club rate is the most economical. Club membership is open to any student pilot and the cost is only $150 for a six month membership. Of course you do not have to join the club to learn to fly. In that event, you will pay the higher "Standard" rate each time that you go up.
The requirements for a private pilot license also include passing a knowledge test. While this test is not overly difficult (many high school students have passed it and done well) most students find it advantageous to take a formal ground school course of study. Nassau Flyers offers regularly scheduled courses which begin at least once a month so that you can fit it into your schedule.
What's the first step? You may begin your lessons in either the flight or ground training program. We recommend that you first take a couple of flight lessons to become familiar with the aircraft, its systems and components. Then, you should begin the ground school and continue your flight training so the two run concurrently. In that way you derive maximum benefits from your efforts in training.
I hope we have answered all of your questions. However, feel free to drop by our office any time to ask questions, see our aircraft, classrooms, briefing rooms, weather computer center, pilot lounge, etc. and chat with our instructors. There's no better way to learn about flying than to come to the airport . You are always welcome at NASSAU FLYERS!!
